What are the donations used for?
Special Needs Right Now, December 2003:
In addition to the hundreds of thousands of pounds of organic produce we grow & donate, this year Garden Harvest has given away 50,000 lbs. of produce given by commercial farms.  We have been offered 10 times that much - over 500,000 lbs. if we can only come up with the funds to run & maintain our delivery trucks.

It makes no sense to have food go to waste when so many are hungry! Your donation really can save this lives by giving us the means to keep our trucks picking up & delivering to the soup kitchens, shelters,  & emergency pantries produce like bananas & sweet potatoes sent up from Florida.

 

Needs for the Upcoming Growing Season:
Even though the Executive Director and Assistant Director volunteer full time and are supported by over 5000 volunteers, there are still considerable expenses in the growing & donating of organic produce than simply the planting & harvesting.  Besides seeds & plants, there are the costs of running & repairing farm equipment such as tractors, seeders, sprayers, mowers, tillers, backhoe, post hole drills, chain saws, trencher, etc. plus registration fees & insurance for the refrigerated truck.  There are a lot of supplies needed such as irrigation equipment, hoses, straw mulch, hay & grain for the animals, materials for fencing & animal sheds, packing tape, etc.
