In some corners of the world, a family that owns an ox is considered wealthy. That is because an ox, through its hard work,  will enable a family to put food on the table and generate an income. 

Poor rural families can farm 10 times the land with an ox as they can by hand; These incredibly strong animals can plow through mud that would stall a tractor in minutes and they can navigate steep mountains & narrow terraces with ease. They are economical to keep, feeding on leftover crops plus they produce milk and of course manure.

They pull wagons loaded with crops to market with ease plus far,ers can rent their ox out to other farmers, thus generating income with which to buy other necessary items, such as medicine, clothing, fuel for heat, etc..  And because the ox can farm so much more land, farmer's children can attend school rather than labor every day in the fields.
