Garden Harvest's Education Programs
School Programs
Schools
that bring classes of students to volunteer at the farm can arrange to have
Garden Harvest staff tailor the content of the volunteer orientation to
perfectly complement classroom instruction.
For
example, if the school curriculum has included class discussions on the
preservation of the Chesapeake Bay, Garden Harvest can speak about the impact
of conventional farmers’ fertilization practices on the health of that body
of water, and elaborate upon the reasons why the specific sustainable
fertilization methods practiced by Garden Harvest serves to promote the health
of the Chesapeake Bay. This
orientation would then be immediately followed by a related volunteer activity
which, in this case, would include the specific fertilization practices just
discussed. This is just one example of the way in which Garden Harvest works
with area Educators to enhance and broaden their students' classroom learning.
