Garden Harvest Employment:
Farm Manager Position
General Job Description: Garden Harvest is
looking for someone with experience in organic vegetable and
fruit production as well as the care of goats, sheep, and
chickens, and the supervision of volunteers and interns.
While Garden Harvest supplements the interns experience with
instructors expert in their respective fields of carpentry,
masonry, welding, heavy equipment operation, the farm manager is
responsible for supervising interns with regard to food
production and animal husbandry.
Responsibilities: Must be capable of doing all
that is necessary for Garden Harvest to meet its annual food
production / distribution goals. Includes ordering seeds,
seedlings, ordering supplies, field preparation, planting,
maintaining crops (watch and treat for drought, insect, disease
problems), maintaining orchards, installing irrigation where
necessary, care of the animals, egg collection, washing,
packing, care of goats and sheep, milking, supervision of
interns and volunteers.
Additional Necessary Skills: Must have great
organizational skills, supervisory skills. leadership skills/,
able to speak to large groups of volunteers
Desirable Skills: Carpentry, masonry, welding,
heavy equipment operation – tractors, backhoe, chainsaw,
weedeater,etc., public speaking, computer skills
Other Requirements: Must be hard-working,
physically fit and capable of hard physical work and in
inclement weather conditions; must be passionate about Garden
Harvest’s mission to alleviate hunger through the promotion of
those organic & sustainable food production methods that
regenerate the environment.
Compensation: $15 per hour to start; as much
food as desired from that which is produced on the farm; health
insurance after 9 months of commitment; 1 week paid vacation
after one year, and up to two more weeks off. Second year, two
weeks paid vacation and extra time off in the off-season.
Timing and Hours: Looking to start any time
after March 10th. 40-50 hours a week April 1– October 31st.
40 hours a week March 31st.. One weekend day is a work day.
