One of the most unique and exciting attributes of Garden Harvest is the
fact that over 95% of its workforce is volunteer. Not only is the Board
of Directors volunteer driven, but also two core staff members still
work as full time volunteers as they have for ten years, inspiring
numbers of others to follow suit. Each year Garden Harvest gives
out the award of "Volunteer of the Year," as well as the award of "In
Kind Donor of the Year".
With so many demonstrating such dedication to the cause, word continues
to spread through the Maryland community driving volunteer records
through record heights. Starting with just 333 volunteers in 1994, in
three years Garden Harvest's volunteer base soared through 3,565, and
since 2001, over 5000 people contribute each year over
19,000 hours helping to produce and deliver an average of 350,000 lbs.
