What do Volunteers do?
There are many ways for one to participate in Garden Harvest's program.
Starting September 1, 2004, because
there is such a compelling need among our poorest citizens for the protein foods
that are the building blocks for growth & health, Garden Harvest is focusing on establishing a milk &
egg distribution program. Hence, most volunteer activities now involve creating
the infrastructure necessary for this milk & egg program. That includes
-
Fencing,(both wire & board fencing),
-
Constructing housing for the animals,
-
Building the milking parlor & bottling plant
according to USDA Grade A standards,
-
Installing Grade A equipment,
-
Painting,
-
Trenching & laying water pipe to the pastures for
the animals water
There will of course always be some field work to meet
the [pressing need for fresh fruits and vegetables for the hungry, but,
for the long term good of the people we serve, our emphasis for the next
two years will be on setting up this egg & milk distribution program.
Garden Harvest volunteers
will have the distinction of being a pivotal force in the establishment
of the only milk & egg production facility in the country that is
created specifically to make these high quality protein foods accessible
to the poor.
