Volunteers:
The Force Behind Our Success
Why Do Folks Volunteer at
Garden Harvest?
What makes Garden Harvest's volunteer program so unique is the fact that it meets the needs of so many with diverse backgrounds, interests, and goals. Garden Harvest provides:
Individuals
- A way to perform meaningful service in a safe, healthy, and beautiful environment.
- A way to serve one's community while enhancing one's personal health by performing physical exercise and breathing clean air.
- A way to meet numbers of people of diverse backgrounds, but with similar interests (on weekends Garden Harvest hosts a number of different groups as well as families and individuals).
- A way to learn more about one's particular interest as well as expanding one's horizons in new areas; Garden Harvest's introductory educational orientation addresses multiple issues including hunger and homelessness, nutrition, organic gardening and sustainable agriculture.

Families
- All of the above plus:
- A way to perform a valuable service to the community while bonding with one's immediate family
- A way to instill the lifelong value of service in one's children through a positive experience in a safe, healthy, and uplifting environment.

For corporations, congregations of religious organizations, other non-profit staff, shelter residents, emergency food agency staff, community groups, clubs, special organizations, camps, and scouts
- All of the above plus:
- A way to have a fulfilling staff-building "retreat" around the focus of service.
- A way to include the whole company, up to 300 people at a time, in a positive group service project.

For senior citizen centers
- A way to do meaningful work and thereby maintain the
healthy self-esteem necessary for good health.
- A way to continue to feel connected and involved with the community.
